What happens when I file a report?
Columbia University, Barnard College, and Teachers College are committed to fostering an environment that is free from sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, and retaliation as defined in this Policy. The University recognizes its responsibility to increase awareness of such misconduct, prevent its occurrence, diligently investigate reports, support individuals who experience misconduct, and respond fairly and firmly to violations of University policy. The University is also committed to supporting students accused of misconduct who go through the disciplinary process. In addressing issues of misconduct, all members of the University must respect and care for one another in a manner consistent with our deeply held academic and community values.
When the Office of Institutional Equity (“OIE”) receives a report alleging conduct that may violate the Title IX & Related Misconduct Policy and Procedures for Students, OIE will promptly reach out to the student who may have experienced misconduct to provide information about the availability of supportive measures and to explain the student’s rights and resolution options under the Policy. OIE addresses all reports of misconduct made against a student in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Title IX & Related Misconduct Policy and Procedures for Students. This infographic is intended to provide an overview of the process. Please see the Title IX & Related Misconduct Policy and Procedures for Students for a complete explanation of the Policy and Procedures.
